Hopes Fades for Abbott - The camera caught these views of Burton W. Abbott, 28-year-old former University of California student during his trial late in 1955 and early 1956 on charges of kidnapping and slaying of Stephanie Bryan, 14-year-old Berkeley, Calif., school girl. He subsequently was convicted and sentenced to die in San Quentin Prison's gas chamber. He is scheduled to be executed at 10am (pst) today. Yesterday his attorneys started a series of 11th hour court pleas aimed at gaining a stay of execution.
