Hillbilly Singer May Run for Governor. Roy Acuff, the 40-year-old Hillbilly star of WSM's "Grand Ole Opry" program, who has sung and fiddled down every country road in Tennessee, may run for governor of that state. A group of friends filed his petition without his knowledge and made him the first qualified candidate for the primaries next August.
