Headed Transplant Team -- Dr. Richard Rowland Lower, 38, headed the transplant team Saturday that performed the world's 16th heart transplant operation at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. Dr. Lower has done research in the heart transplantation of animals since 1959, both at Stanford University Hospitals and MCV. He heads MCV's division of thoracic and cardiac surgery.
