Government Salvage of Hurricane Timber in New England. Adams Pond Derry N.H.; Fred Reul of Utica N.Y. the U.S. Government Scaler in charge of the timber scaling at Derry N.H. His job is to measure each log, number it, brand it with U.S. mark, and credit each farmer with the number of board feet of lumber that he delivers to the pond. Most of the timber is white and pine and it is estimated that over a billion feet of lumber will be purchased by the government before the last of the hurricane timber is in ponds for storage.
