ŞanLoclocality is the village of residence of the commune of the same name from Bistrița-Năsăud county, Transilvania, Romania. The commune of ŞanComwas established around 1600, at first being a hamlet of the mother commune - Rodna Veche, and since 1773 it has been documented as a self-contained commune, as Rodna Nouă and then ȘanCom; it is located at about 650 m altitude at the foothills of Ineu Peak in Rodnei Mountains, being surrounded from all sides by high mountains. These mountains form a hamlet cut by valleys and constitute a strong shield, making the temperature moderate and the commune less exposed to winds and storms. In 1935-1936, Professor Dimitrie Gusti and his teams of researchers organized two documentary campaigns in SanÎn, following which was made the film “ŞanÎn - 1935” which includes traditions and wedding customs, finding here a folklore “unpolluted” by the influences of other peoples. The only unwritten theater in the country was also discovered by the sociologist Professor Dimitrie Gusti, in the village of ŞanUn, theater with which even today its inhabitants boast and carol the whole country; it was organized spontaneously by the inhabitants of the village under the leadership of Constantin Iugan during the interwar period. The scenes improvised by the amateur actors took in the drift, in a humorous tone, the crafts of the councilors or narrated the last events in the locality.
