Gene Freese Sold to Pirates -- Third baseman Gene Freese was sold today by the Cincinnati Reds to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a "substantial" amount of cash and a minor league player to be delivered later. Freese, 29, started his major league career with the Pirates in 1955. He has played with four other teams; going to the Reds in Dec. 1960 where he was a key figure in the Reds 1961 drive to a National League pennant.
