First Dust Storms Come to the Southwest. Guymon, Okla. -- Grain elevators assumed this ghostly appearance during one of the dust storms that passed over here late in January, the first in almost a year. Others were predicted throughout the winter and summer unless heavy rains or snow packed the already pulverized soil the plains states.
