Hypnosis Used As an Anesthetic. Dr. William P. Ridder preforming a minor operation on the arm of Elsie McKinley, 23 of East Weymouth, Mass., with the use of hypnosis as an anesthetic in the Quincy, Mass., City Hospital, February 23. The surgery was performed in a 25-minute operation on Miss McKinley while Dr. Naif L. Simon used hypnosis to anesthize the patient. Dr. Simon said Miss McKinley, a nurse anesthetist at the hospital, returned to her tour of duty directly after the operation. Hospital officials said the use of hypnosis as an anesthetic was the first in Massachusetts.
