Edward Gein, 51-year-old Plainfield handyman, manages a slight smile as he left Wood County courthouse. Circuit Judge Herbert A. Bunde, who presided at the formal hearing, sentenced Gein to a indeterminate term at the Wisconsin State Hospital for the Criminal Insane at Waupun. Gein admitted recently that he killed two women and looted the graves of a dozen other women and preserved parts of their bodies in his secluded farmhouse.
