First Ashore--A young Jewish immigrant drapes his arm over his sister’s shoulder as they arrive at Haifa, Israel, May 15 with first group of immigrants to reach newly-proclaimed Jewish state. They arrived from Genoa, Italy, with 300 other immigrants aboard the 6,000-ton ship Argentina and held British visas under the old quota system which ended with the British mandate. The new state issued new entry permits. The girl was first ashore, followed by her brother. They came from Germany.
