Gavels Made From Historic Tree. The three gavels made from wood of the historic tree in Jackson, Mich., under which the Republican Party was first organized, that were presented to President Hoover, Vice-President Curtis and Speaker Nicholas Longworth, by a Republican delegation from Michigan that called on the President to invited him to the Diamond Jubilee celebration in Jackson on July 6th.
