The Harrison Gray Otis house, corner of Cambridge and Lynde streets, built 1795-6 by Boston's second mayor, ready for a move of several rods to the rear in order to allow the widening of Cambridge street at this point. This mansion-house is the headquarters of The Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, which has just launched a campaign for nearly a quarter of a million to make complete restoration of the house possible, as well as the altering of two adjoining houses on Lynde street for the purposes of a fire-proof museum. One of the state vice-presidents of the society is Mr. Henry Ford.
