The scene is seen from the river. On the right, in the foreground, one of the daughters is seen from behind. She is naked and emerges from and plays over the water. Another, dressed, sits on the shore and is a little in the shade. The third, in full light, leans against a rock. She is naked, except for a drapery that covers her knees and her hair scatters. Her head diverts and her profile is lost. She discards Siegfried's words of mockery. He is seen from behind. His shield is on his right arm and he blows his horn. There is a stormy sky and the landscape undulates with trees.
