On the right, in the foreground, Brünnhilde is lying on a rock covered with moss and shaded by a tall fir tree. Behind her, standing with both arms raised, Wotan has just struck the rock with his spear. Between his daughter and him, the flame has sprung up and spreads, throwing fantastic light on both of them.
