Handwriting Characteristics. All handwriting is based on principles illustrated in upper portion of this picture. The categories in which handwriting fall are -- arcade, garland, angular, round counterclockwise and round clockwise. Handwriting, according to Herald J. E. Gesell, examinator of questioned documents and fingerprint expert in the Veterans' Administration's Investigation service, is as much as part of an individual as his own flesh and blood. Forgery will "just black you in the face" says Mr. Gesell, in explaining for example, how reversal of tremors (illustrated below) are a dead give away. Genuine tremor is found in both the up and down strokes. This is known generally as the age tremor. And, there is a very decided distinction between it and the fraud tremor which is always misplaced.
