Hands in the New Deal. These are the hands through which pass millions of Uncle Sam's dollars. They belong to Jesse Jones, Chairman of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation, and are square and particularly wide at the base knuckles, with thick veins interlaced beneath the Texas-browned skin, and big thick-knuckled fingers which difficulty in turning pages one at the time. Often Chairman Jones sits quietly, in a curiously old-fashioned photograph pose, with a finger and thumb to his temple, of with hands slowly pounding his chair-arms, not particularly for emphasis, but almost unconsciously.
