Hamey Named Phillies' General Manager - H. Roy Hamey, seated, former assistant general manager of the New York Yankees and former general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates, poses with Philadelphia Phillies President Bob Carpenter here today after Hamey's appointment as the Phillies' first general manager in more than six years was announced. Hamey assumed his duties immediately. The position, handled by Carpenter until today, has not been filled since the death of Herb Pennock in January, 1948.
