The arch is a memorial to the soldiers and sailors of the Civil War. On top of the arch is a colossal bronze group by Frederick MacMonnies, representing the chariot of victory led by the heralds of peace. Beyond the arch is Prospect Park and on the left is the Brooklyn Public Library.
