Fantin-Latour, Henri, 1836-1904 · 1885
At the top of the composition, Fame flies by blowing her trumpet which she holds with her right hand. With her left hand, she supports one end of a tablet. The other end of the tablet is supported by a little child Cupid. Near him, another little Cupid brings a palm. Truth, naked and seen from behind, comes out of the well; her left knee is placed on the circular margin that occupies the bottom of the composition. She holds a long drapery in her left arm and in her right hand she holds a stylet. She finishes engraving on the tablet the names of R. Schumann, H. Berlioz, R. Wagner, J. Brahms. In the distance, there is a landscape where the sky and the hills are reflected in the water.
