Girl slain near home -- Reading, Pa..........The battered almost-nude body of Dorothy Schlappig, 14 (photo at left), was found today crammed into a snow-covered metal ash barrel in an alley near her Reading home. Police said she had apparently been criminally assaulted and then strangled. In photo at right, detectives Hageman and Oswald, of the Reading police department, examine the ash barrel in which the body was found. The girl was last seen alive when she left the home of relatives last night, bound for the home of her foster parents. Police said the area near the barrel showed signs of a terrific struggle. Although there were no clues to the assailant.
