In the foreground, on the left, Manfred moves forward on a point of sheer rock. He is seen from behind, bareheaded and wrapped in a large coat that floats over his right shoulder. With his left hand he holds on to the trunk of a large fir tree. Below are the tops of other fir trees that are planted on the slope of the precipice. In the distance, the waters of a lake are seen. In front of Manfred, in the middle of the composition, the Fairy of the Alps, is seated and half overturned on cloud. Her face turns up and she extends her left arm. Her right arm is bent and her right hand is open and raised towards the sky.
