Father Jogues Memorial, Ambassador of Peace, from New France to the Five Nations of the Iroquois, with his companion, John Bourdon, discovered these waters, named them Lac du Saint Sacrement May 30, 1646. Martyred by the Mohawks at the river of their name on October the eighteenth in that same year. Erected on the burial field on the Battles of Lake George, Adirondacks, N.Y.
