Deputy Sheriff Gus Targo (left) is shown unlocking a cell for Sigmund Engel (right) after the self-styled lover of one thousand and one women was sentenced to spend 2 to 10 years in the state penitentiary today for operating a confidence game. Judge George M. Fisher of Criminal Court, in sending Engel to prison, turned down pleas for a new trial and an arrest of judgment. Engel had been convicted by a jury of swindling Mrs. Reseda Corrigan, 39-year-old Chicago widow, of $8,700 by promising to marry her. He was placed in a Cook County cell to await transfer to prison.
