The Hotel Belmore in Manhattan marked the end of the road in the short life of Karen Baxter, 15-year-old runaway from Cambridge, Mass., who resorted to prostitution to survive in New York. The slim red-haired teenager was found dead in the hotel Feb. 22, choked to death with a metal chain by one of her customers.
