In the foreground, Mercury sits, naked and seen from behind. He presents to Love a sheet of written paper. Cupid, seen from the front, is naked and stands between the legs of Mercury. He throws himself back, looks at his tutor and refuses to participate in the lesson. In the background, on a higher ground, Venus is stretched out along on the grass and watches over. Along the bottom, there are shadows and on the right, a dove rests on the edge of a square stone, next to a tuft of flowers.
