Pvt. Edith C. Baum, 25, shown after she was sworn in as a member of the new Metropolitan police rookie class, is the daughter of FBI agent William Carter Baum who was shot to death 4/22/34 in a gun battle with Lester J. Gillis, alias Baby Face Nelson at Spider Lake, Wisc. Pvt. Baum, who was only 11 months old when her father was slain, lives in Washington with her mother.
