Ed Gein

Ed Gein (shown in 1957 file photo), who was charged ten years ago as "The Butcher of Plainfield" in the slaying of two women and the moonlight robbery of graves, has been found mentally competent to stand trial, it was revealed here 1/16. The 61-year-old former handyman broke into international headlines when a woman's body was found hanging in his farm shack. A total of 19 human skulls and furniture fashioned from human remains were among other things found. Gein pleaded innocent and innocent by reason of insanity and was committed to Central State Hospital.
