Dynamiting for Proper Drainage. Dynamite is detonated by a blasting cap. The small copper cylinder being inserted into the hole punched in the dynamite stick, as shown above. Only one blasting cap was used to explode the entire 1700 feet of ditch. By the propagation method of blasting, the explosion of the one stick transits sufficient force to explode the next adjacent stick in the ground. And the explosion carries along the hole line dynamite at a speed of about 18,000 feet a second.
