Dido sits on a marble bench and leans towards Aeneas. Her arm extends behind his head and her left hand is held in his hand. A narrow diadem adorns her black, falling hair. Aeneas, kneels before her and is seen in profile. On the right, behind Dido, there is building with round columns. On the left, the disk of the moon shines behind heavy foliage. It is deep night except for the whiteness of the moonlight. (Berlioz, the Trojans at Carthage, act II, scene 2)
