Milwaukee, Wis... Roland Wasti, 28, of Clifton, N.J., is shown manacled to a Milwaukee patrolman after he was arrested in the drowning of this two-year-old daughter, Ruth, in the Kinnickinnick river, Sunday night. Wasti, according to police, claims he meant to die with the child and jumped into the river with her in his arms. He lost his nerve and swam back to shore leaving the child to drown. Prior to leaping into the river he bought the child an ice cream soda and had one himself to wash down 12 aspirin tablets - "to give me courage to kill myself."
