‘Dreadful’ and ‘Hideous’--Investigators for the House Committee on Un-American Activities today displayed this charter and said it was a Ku Klux Klan member certificate issued to “the Craven County Improvement Association” of New Bern, N.C. After the date, listed as the fourth day of the sixth month of 1964 appear these words: "on the Wonderful day of the Dreadful week of the Hideous month of the 98th year of the Klan.” Phillip Manuel, left, and Donald Appell, the investigators, said the KKK maintains its own calendar and has its own names for days, weeks and months.
