Steinlen, Théophile Alexandre, 1859-1923 · 1894
A brave and old peasant, hunched over by age and broken by work, interrupts his labors to listen incredulously to the cheers of his deputy making his rounds. The handsome gentleman, with a hat and light overcoat, a black jacket and white vest, puts a cigar to his mouth. The village is seen in the distance on a green hill, and there are fields, fruit trees, houses, a church and bell tower in view as well.
