Dr. Ralph Abernathy ... at B.C. Last Night. The audience, mostly white students, greeted the speakers enthusiastically. A cluster of about 65 black students who sat together near the front of the hall warmed to everyone but Dr. Ralph Abernathy, president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, noted for its non-violent philosophy. Presented by the university's Cultural Committee, the program began with a note of dissatisfaction sounded by the black student called upon to introduce the speakers.
