Defense Needs Revive Old Iron Mine in Jersey. Workers repairing a conveyor at the Jugtown Mountain iron mine in Hunterdon County which is being prepared for production. The mine has been inactive for more than 60 years and contains low phosphorus ores needed in the armor-plate industry. Several other mines in New Jersey have already resumed production as part of the defense effort.
