Death at the Polo Grounds--Circle indicates area in Section 42 of the left field grandstand in the Polo Grounds here where a spectator, identified as Bernard Lawrence Doyle, 50, of Union City, N.J., was shot to death mysteriously as more than 40,000 persons gathered for a double-header between the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers. Doyle slumped forward and spurts of blood came from both ears and a hole above the left temple. An ambulance surgeon pronounced him dead. In background are apartment houses on Coogan's Bluff. Police theorized the bullet came from a distance of about a half mile.
