Donohue Indianapolis, Ind: Mark Donohue, Media, Pa, drifts his Offenhauser-powered McLaren racer through the first turn at the Indianapolis Speedway 5/6 en route to clocking the fastest lap ever recorded on the 2½ mile track, a blistering 177.901 miles-per-hour. With other drivers struggling to top the 170-mark, it makes Donohue the man to beat in this year’s 500-mile Memorial Day race. Donohue preceded his unofficial record lap with laps of 174,175 and 176-mph.
