Elephant And Wolf Lend A Hand With Handling. These animal-named ways to get a lift will be seen at the Civil Engineering and Mechanical Handling Outdoor Section of the British Industries Fair, May 3-14 in London and Birmingham. Pictures show: TOP: The Timber Wolf, Britain's first straddle carrier manufactured by British Straddle Carrier Co. Ltd., Cambridge. A loader-cum-carrier, it picks up an average working load of 15,000 lbs. and transports it at up to 25 m.p.h. Proved under actually tropic and arctic working conditions, it does a variety of jobs and is diesel-powered. BOTTOM: The Freightlifter, nicknamed a mobile elephant, manufactured by Shelvoke and Drewry Ltd., Letchworth, Hertfordshire. It is pictured with a crane job attachment which is interchangeable with forks which operate up to 20 feet. Powered by either a gas or diesel engine, it has proved capable of handling loads between 15-18,000 lbs. on soft and uneven surfaces in many parts of the world.
