From the top of a flight of steps we look over into a square (Plaza de los Litererarios) bounded on the right by the massive wall of the convent, which is broken only towards the top by three rows of windows guarded by gratings, and at a lower level, by a tablet affixed to the wall. At the end of the square is the Correo (post office), of which the upper storey rests on an arcade of which three arches are seen. Five figures - a youth, a beggar woman, a guardia civile, and 2 priests are on the step, others sit at the foot of the wall or walk in the square. The subject is reversed. The subject is approximately finished. The margin, wider on the right than elsewhere, contains many trial strokes of the dry point, especially on the left, and at the foot, the word Santiago towards the right.
