Dana Shapard, who may well be the first female to receive a license and compete against boy jockeys in a regular race in Ohio, sports a black eye and a broken nose. Dana was hurt 4/9 at Thistledown when the horse she was galloping reared its head back and struck her full in the face. She expects to ride in competition as soon as the doctor tells her she is okay.
