In the foreground, Marguerite sits. Her face is turned away and invisible. Her left hand holds the drapery that has slipped from her shoulder, against her bosom and exposes her throat. Above her are two adolescent Cupids. One is winged, naked, and seen in profile. He sits on the clouds and plays a lyre. The other Cupid is almost facing forward and dressed in flowing draperies. He also touches the strings of the lyre. On the right, are the faces of Faust and Mephistopheles.
