Paper is a basic product with multiple daily uses. There are numerous problems, however, in its manufacture and use. To study such problems, Dr. Charles G. Humiston produces paper pulp in the laboratory on this miniature paper making machinery.

A new heart is lowered into Philip Barnum's chest 9/20 by University of Michigan surgeons. The Kalamazoo man, 49, received the healthy heart of Herman Opdenhoff, 37, of Waterford, Mich, who died Sept. 20th. The picture was made by U-M Medical Photography Unit near the beginning of Michigan's first heart transplant operation.
