Confidential Letter on Russian Request--Council Frank Tavenner of the House Un-American Activities Committee today read this letter at the hearing on reports of shipment of atom bomb supplies to Russia during World War 11. The letter, from a lend-lease official to an Army Engineering officer said in part that "I understand that General Groves has advised General Wesson that the particular request for 500 pounds of Urano-Uranic Oxide and 500 pounds of Uranium Nitrate can be approved X X X The Soviet Commission is being advised accordingly X X X." Gen. Leslie Groves observed that the committee would find "I turned down the idea and it was not approved."
