Mrs. Alice Volk of Sully, Iowa, holds a $10,000 check beside white marigold flowers grown from seeds she developed. David Burpee of a national seed company has been searching for such a seed for 56 years and in 1954 offered the $10,000 to the first person to send him seeds of a white marigold measuring 2 1/2 inches across.
