A destructive, death-dealing earthquake "disastrous" proportions destroyed nearly half the downtown section of Anchorage late 3/27 and triggered a 15-foot tidal wave which raced toward Hawaii. Reports from the area indicate hundreds of persons may have been killed. The downtown section of Anchorage is shown (top) in the 1958 file photo.
