Claims World Mark in Javelin Throw - Miguel Quadra Salcedo, 23-year-old Spaniard, works out with the javelin in Spain after it was disclosed he had tossed the javelin 284 feet, 7 1/2 inches, to top the accepted world mark of 281 feet, 2 inches. Salcedo, who will compete at the annual University of Pennsylvania relays in Philadelphia April 26-27, uses a unique underhand style in heaving the spear. This may have a bearing on acceptance of the new mark.
