Child slayer found guilty

John w. shaffer, 29, railroad brakeman, looks through the bars at county jail after being sentenced to 45 years for the murder of his 5-year-old step-daughter, lettie joyce weir. Shaffer was charged with beating the child with a strap, tying her hands and feet and gagging her, and then ducking her in the water. she was found dead a short time later in closet where she had been shoved.
