Chicago – New Cubs Coach Congratulates Banks – Congratulations are mutual today as Ernie Banks (left) to Chicago Cubs, who had just hit three home run against Milwaukee Braves, shakes hands with John “Buck” O’Neil, 50, who was just appointed as a coach by the Cubs. He becomes the first Negro to hold such a position in the major leagues. Banks played for O’Neil when later was manager of the Kansas City Monarchs.
