Carole Landis and Comic-Magician Russel Swann rehearse their guillotine act for the benefit of the Sixth War Loan Drive in New York. The 22-pound guillotine is one of Swann's famous props. To the innocent bystander the blade seems to be aiming at the head of the volunteer subject. Above, Swann adjusts Carole's head in the instrument. Below, Swann sends the blade of the guillotine down. Carole remains in one piece but a carrot that had been placed below her head is severed. Neat trick when it works.
