Pvt. Edward T. Conners, above, 18-year-old machine-gunner of the 25th Infantry Division in Viet Nam, is 6-feet, 7-inches tall and weighs 220 pounds. When the bullets start to fly in combat, he bolts for cover. He was courtmartialed for refusal to obey an officer's order to pack his equipment and rejoin his platoon. The courtmartial gave the Kingsport, Tenn., youth a dishonorable discharge and two years at hard labor. "I freeze up. I can't face it out there," he says.
