Miss Candace Martin of Boston's Jamaica Plain section is the first of the fair sex to join Local 4E of the International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO. A field or "eyeball" engineer for the Gilbane Building Co. on the construction site of the 60-sty home office of John Hancock Life Insurance Co., Candy takes a reading on a level for Walter Ryan (r), business mgr. of Local 4 of the union. Looking on is Candy's boss and father, Dick Martin, a Gilbane vice president and project manager for the John Hancock Tower.
